How to Make Brand New Candles Out of Leftover Ones?

How to Make Brand New Candles Out of Leftover Ones?

The essential decorations of romantic dinners, meditations, and many more: candles are an important piece of our lives. So why throw out leftover candles, when we can make our own candles from them? In this article, we will learn how to make brand new candles from any leftover piece of candle, to our liking.

Step 1

First of all we need to gather the candle pieces that we will mix together. You can either mix the same type of candle, same scent or same colour; or mix scentes and colours. Just make sure that they don’t smell to heavy, or the colour is not something that does not match your style.

After gathering all the pieces, seperate candle wick threads if there is any in them, cut into little pieces with an old knife –so that a beautiful knife would not be sacrificed- and put the pieces, again, into an old pot to heat and melt. We should also prepare our molds and threads here, it can be an old tequila glass, any shape of an open ended glass or ceramic can do.

Step 2

In this specific part you might have to be careful, candle wax acts like oil when it boils, we don’t want to get harmed by that. So set your cooker on the lovest heat, put your pot of candles on it and watch them mix as you gain some satisfaction points, because it really is satisfying if you also mix the colours, and mix the scentes beautifully as well.

After a couple of stirring, it should be done, so grab your mold, if you want to keep your candle in the mold it is fine, but if you’re going to take the candle off after it dries, make sure to use a cooking spray or a little more professional candle spray to prevent it from sticking, and making it harder to take off.

Now you can cut your wick thread, place it in the middle of the mold, and with an hair pin or a plastic bag pin, fix the thread on the top of the mold, so we can light our candle after it dries.

Step 3

Finally in the last step, pour the melted wax slowly in the mold, let it dry, and enjoy your brand new, hand made and enviromentally friendly, upcycled candle!

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • ½ cup liquid olive oil soap
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar

Combine all ingredients in a jar or spray bottle. Shake well. After spraying on the surfaces you will clean, apply with a sponge or brush and rinse thoroughly.

Toilet bowl cleaner

The two main actors of natural cleaning are baking soda and white vinegar. This mixture of vinegar antiseptically provides a satisfactory cleaning thanks to the and the stain removing power of baking soda. If you want this cleaning to be accompanied by a fresh scent, you can use 10 drops of essential lemon oil.

  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar

Mix ingredients in a bowl. Pour it on the inner surface of the toilet and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. When the holding time is up, brush it off and then rinse.

Laundry detergent

Laundry detergents are one of the most crucial members of the cleaners family. The toxic substances in it can trigger ailments such as allergies, asthma and even cancer. The harmful effects on the environment are also quite high. This recipe is a much healthier and easily applicable option. A Turkish coffee and white vinegar is enough as a softener.

  • 1 bar white soap bar
  • 1 glass of washing soda baking soda
  • 1 water glass of Turkish coffee
  • 10 drops of essential oil

Kitchen counter tops to cleanse the dirt from oil and natural solution to ensure hygiene. You can store the mixture you have prepared in a spray bottle and use it until it is finished by shaking before each use.

Microwave oven cleaner

One of the most difficult steps in cleaning in the kitchen is microwave oven cleaning. It is a matter of cleaning the oils that stick to the oven walls and stay there for a long time with detergent. This simple application gives very good results, and there is no need for chemicals.

  • 1 glass of water
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • 1 lemon

Pour water and vinegar into a glass bowl. After squeezing the juice of the lemon, put it into the water. Put the bowl in the oven and heat it for three minutes at high heat. After stopping the oven, wait five minutes without opening the door. After opening the door, remove the bowl and wipe all interior surfaces of the oven with a sponge.

The choice of liquid detergent for dish washing  is important, as it comes into contact with food. Research shows that there are detergent residues on the surface of dishwasher-washed kitchenware. Considering the very harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, sulfate and phosphate in the detergents in the market, you may want to rinse your clean dishes a few more times.

  • 1 + ½ cup lemon salt
  • 1 + ½ cup washing soda baking soda
  • ½ cup½
  • 1 of cup sea salt

Mix all the ingredients. If you want, you can add 10 drops of essential lemon oil to the detergent to give it a fresh scent. Aerate the mixture for a few hours. Store in a sealed container and use 1-1.5 tablespoons for each wash.

Glass Cleaner

Cleaning the sparkling glasses are also possible without detergent. The essential oil is used for fragrance and is optional.

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 10 drops essential oil

Combine cornstarch and water in a spray bottle. Shake it until the starch dissolves. Add other ingredients. Mix well by shaking. After spraying on glass surfaces, wipe clean with a microfiber cloth.

Floor Cleaner

Start with collecting orange peels. You can use this formula on many surfaces in the home, including glass. It is best only on marble floors not to use it , as the acid contained in both vinegar and orange can be corrosive to marble and other natural stones.

  • Orange Peels
  • Vinegar
  • Water

Fill a jar with orange peels. Add vinegar over the top. Let it sit for two weeks. When you use it, mix one part of the mixture with one part of drinking water. After shaking it well, spray it on the desired surface and wipe it with a clean cloth.

  • 120 ml olive oil
  • 10 ml Lavender oil

How To Do?

First of all, make sure that the area where you will make soap gets plenty of air, never try to make soap in closed areas as you will use caustic. Put on your goggles, put on gloves and you’re ready to make soap.

Then take the glass bowl, pour the caustic soda into it. Add pure water over caustic soda and mix. While mixing, be careful not to splash around. When you are sure that the ingredients are well mixed, let them cool for a while. Smoke may rise from this mixture, this is quite normal, do not worry. However, in order not to breathe these rising fumes, be sure to do this in an open area.

Finally, take the pot and transfer the olive oil into it and put it on the stove. Heat the oil until it reaches 40 ° C and remove from heat. Add the caustic soda mixture into it and mix it with the help of a hand blender. When the mixture has a jelly-like consistency, add the lavender flowers and leaves dried with lavender oil and mix.

Take the mold into which you will pour the soap, put some lavender flowers in it, and then pour the mixture into it. Finally, sprinkle lavender flowers on top of the mixture and let it cool. If you wish, cover it with a towel-like cover and leave the mold in this way for 24 hours without moving it. Take your soap out of the mold after 1 day. Keep it this way for 1-2 months in a dry environment and then use it as you wish. That’s it!
